Requesting DSL is easy. No upfront payments - No credit card information needed. Coverage in 48 U.S. states.

To Residential users:

Even though you use our site to check for DSL internet provider presense, and the results show you are qualified for service, to ensure you will receive the speed of the plan presented a final test at your premise needs to be completed before activating your service. 75% of the plan service level is the usual standard. This means if you request a service with a download speed = 3MB, the standard will be 75% of the 3MB, or about 2.25MB. This is why you first need to request service. After the request is received, a qualified technician from the requested service provider will contact you to complete the test.

Alternatively, some dsl providers will also offer a do-it-yourself "self-install" plan for a lower price option. In this case the provider will ship the required modem(s) and software and you DIY. Many providers will also activate on your personal modem and equipment, and in this case it can reduce your monthly rate by $2 - $4 (depending on the monthly modem lease fee). This means your equipment for connecting to the internet ,such as modem, with any particular provider will need to be compatible for use with their service. Make sure you read their system requirements.

DSL? Satellite? Wireless? Charter High-Speed Cable?

Written by: A real Charter High-Speed customer. - May 30, 2016

Going on 4 years now I've been a Charter High-Speed cable advocate. Yes, I have other options. I can get dsl from CenturyTel, or I could get satellite dsl from DirecWay (HughesNet), I might even be in range for a wireless connection using ClearWire wireless internet. With all these options I still will go with Charter High-Speed cable.

Here's why: Blazing fast, reliable and always on, Anti-virus protection - firewall - spam filtering and Parental controls included, up to 10 email account boxes with an advanced security and email control features, 10 GB of included web space and ISP hosting service to host your own website, and the Charter.net web portal access offering access to customizable information and premium content.

Currently I use the 5 Mbps down/ 512 kbps up stream package. It's fast and good for me since I network a few computers in my home. But recently I was approached by Charter to upgrade to a new service they offer which I think is top in the cable broadband industry breaking the internet highway speed limits - 10 Mbps downstream/ 1 Mbps upstream. They say I can try it for the next 3 months for $59.99 a month. This is what I pay for the 5 meg plan. At the end of the trial it will go to $79.99.

From what I understand, this is only offered to current Charter High-Speed cable customers. I suppose you could sign up for the 3 Mbps plan at $19.99 a month for the first 6 months, and somewhere down the line take advantage of the 10 meg upgrade offer.

If Charter gets that upstream speed up a bit more, they will definitely be competing with the traditional T1 trunk lines as far as speed is concerned. T1's are dedicated and cable is shared so really they are 2 different animals. But speed is speed and that's what I need. Hands down - with a variety of broadband internet service provider options available, I still advocate Charter High-Speed cable.
